India XI win ICL 20s World Series

ICL India defeated ICL World by ten runs in the inaugural edition of ICL 20s World Series Championship at Hyderabad.
G Vignesh was declared the man of the match. Ibrahim Khaleel was declared the man of the series for his brilliant performance as wicket-keeper cum batsman through out the ICL 20s World Series.
Winning the toss, R Sathish elected to bat. The Indians opened with their tested combination of Vignesh and Khaleel. The opening bowlers for the World side came out firing all cylinders and at the end of the first two overs, the scorecard read only one solitary run for no loss. The young openers soon got into the groove and at the end of the fifth over, the Indians were back on track at 27 for no loss. They soon started taking their chances and the partnership was worth 45 runs at the end of the seventh over.
The explosive opening partnership worth 76 was finally broken by Elliott in the tenth over, getting the wicket of Khaleel for a well made 34. The 100 of the Indian innings came up with a big six by Vignesh in the 13th over, which also brought about his explosive 50 off only 36 balls, including five fours and three sixes.
Chandana got the big wicket of Vignesh trapping him leg before wicket for a well made 57. Indians folded their innings at 148 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.

ICL World beat ICL Pakistan by Six Wickets

The ICL World booked their place in the final of the Indian Cricket League's World Series Twenty20 competition by beating ICL Pakistanis by six wickets in Hyderabad on Monday.
The Chris Cairns-led World team will now face ICL India in Tuesday's title clash. Inzamam-ul-Haq won the toss but his team could manage only 113 before being bowled out in 19.4 overs. In reply, ICL World achieved the target without much trouble and finished with 117 for four in 17.2 overs.
None of the Pakistani batsmen managed to play substantial innings with Imran Farhat (20) being the highest scorer. Inzamam himself could contribute only one. The only reasonable partnerships in their effort were the stand of 33 between Taufeeq Umar and Farhat and the 22 runs put on by Humayun Farhat and Naved-ul-Hasan.
South African medium pacer Andrew Hall (3-22) and Australian part-time left-arm spinner Matthew Elliot (3-17) were the wreckers-in-chief for the World team.
Elliot was adjudged man of the match as he contributed 26 runs in 22 deliveries to the World's opening partnership of 49 with fellow Aussie Ian Harvey (52 not out in 46 balls, 8x4).

India XI enters ICL 20s World Series final

India XI entered the final of the ICL 20s World Series cricket championship with a 32-run win over Pakistan XI in its final league match at the Lal Bahadur Stadium at Hydrabad on Sunday.
Pakistan XI was off to a rollicking start chasing 177 for victory. Opener Imran Nazir, who hit a huge six over long-off off Ganapathi Vignesh, left the field after developing cramps. Soon, Abdul Razzaq (38, 17b, 7x4, 1x6) took charge. However, Vignesh, who finished with impressive figures of three for 22, provided the breakthrough by taking a brilliant return catch diving to his right to send back Humayan Farhat for seven.
Earlier, Man-of-the-Match, Tejinder Pal Singh’s quick-fire 52 (32b, 4x4, 2x6) helped India XI post 176 for six in 20 overs. Opener Ibrahim Khaleel lent stability with a sensible knock (35, 30b, 5x4) during his 66-run second-wicket stand with Abhishek Jhunjhunwala (26, 36b, 1x4).

India XI beats World XI By 44 runs

The youthful exuberance of India XI prevailed over the experience of the World XI as the former notched up a 44-run win to stay on course for a berth in the final of the ICL 20s World Series cricket championship at the floodlit Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Saturday night.
It was the second win in three matches for India XI, helping it top the table with four points, while the World XI lost its second in three.
Though only Abbas Ali crossed the 30-run mark, almost everyone chipped in with useful contributions for the winner. Man-of-the-Match Binny chipped in with a useful knock of 21 (16b, 2x4, 1x6).

India XI beat Pakistan XI by four wickets

The third match of the ICL 20s World Series featured the ICL India team taking on the formidable ICL Pakistani at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday.
A highly anticipated encounter was in store expecting to revive the great "Indo-Pak" cricket rivalry on the vibrant ICL platform. In the end the Indians won a close encounter against their arch rivals by 4 wickets.
Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq won the toss and elected to bat. The Pakistanis opened with their flamboyant combination of Abdul Razzaq and Imran Nazir . Some disciplined bowling from Murtaza and Kumaran in the final overs, assisted by some sharp fielding saw the Pakistani side restricted to 152/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply the Indians came out with the explosive Vignesh and Ibrahim Khaleel to open the innings. The move was moderately successful till Vignesh went for a shot too many, falling to the experienced Razzaq, for an entertaining cameo of 18.
At the end of the fifth over the Indians were right on target at 43/1. A boundary down the third man by Khaleel brought on the Indian 50 in the sixth over. The young wicketkeeper was making most of the opportunity, batting sensibly in company of the classy Abhishek Jhunjhunwala. Both the young batsmen were playing sensibly taking quick singles with the odd boundary and brought on the 50-run partnership off only 41 balls in the 10th over.
At the halfway mark of their innings the ICL India side was very well placed at 83/1, needing 70 more runs of 60 balls and nine wickets in hand. It finally took the experienced Arshad Khan to break the lovely partnership as he dismissed Jhunjhunwala in the 11th over, for a well made 23.
Khaleel brought up his maiden fifty off only 39 balls in the 12th over. An unfortunate run out of the in-form TP Singh, backing too far at the non striker end brought the Pakistani side back into the game at the Indian score of 103/3 in the 13th over. Some smart out-fielding from Razzaq brought an end to Khaleel's brilliant innings of 63 in the 15th over.
With five overs to go, the match was in India's control, needing 34 runs from 30 balls with 6 wickets in hand. With two overs to go the Indians needed 16 runs with 5 wickets in hand. In the end some power hitting by captain Sathish helped the ICL Indians score a magnificent victory by 4 wickets.

Pakistan XI beat World XI by nine wickets

The second match of the ICL 20s World Series saw the formidable ICL Pakistani team take on ICL World XI at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.
With a galaxy of international stalwarts in both sides, high quality cricket was expected. However, it turned out to be a one-sided contest, the Pakistanis going on to score a comprehensive nine-wicket victory.
Chris Cairns won the toss and elected to bat. World XI opened with a new combination, Elliott and Vincent. The world side raced to 29 for no loss after three over. But then Inzamam brought on his most economical bowler, Shahid Nazir, in the fifth over and he responded immediately with the wicket of Elliott for 14. At the end of the fifth over World XI were well-placed at 41-1. But some controlled bowling by Nazir and Arshad Khan choked the scoring rate, restricting the total to only 46-2 in the eighth over.
Shahid, who was taking off straight from his stupendous form at the Edelweiss 20s Challenge, accounted for his second scalp of the match in the form of Damien Martyn's wicket. At the half-way mark of their innings, ICL World XI were in trouble at 57-3. The fall of wickets at regular intervals had the world side in serious trouble at 80-5 by the 14th over. Razzaq came back for a second spell in the 17th over and worked his magic immediately, sending back the dangerous Vincent and Hall off consecutive delivers to leave the ICL World innings in total disarray at 112-7. With no real momentum, the World innings finally folded at a modest 130-9 in the allotted 20 overs.
In reply, the Pakistani side got off to a good start with both Nazir and Razzaq playing shots all around the park and taking the Pakistani total to 30 for no loss at the end of the first three overs. A fluid partnership between the two in-form openers took the Pakistanis to 50 in the seventh over. At the half-way mark of their innings, ICL Pakistan were comfortably placed at 66 for no loss. Nazir brought up his third ICL fifty off 50 balls in the 14th over; it was studded with six boundaries and a six.
The openers brought up their century partnership in the 15th over, coasting comfortably towards the target. With five overs to go, the Pakistanis needed only 27 runs off 30 balls, at less than six runs per over, with all their 10 wickets intact.
It finally took part-time bowler Mathew Elliott to break the stupendous partnership of 119 with the wicket of Nazir, who fell after a well-made 69. In the end ICL Pakistani easily got past the modest target of 131, with nine wickets still in hand.

ICL World XI beat ICL India XI by eight wickets

A dazzling unbeaten half century by DR Martyn (67) and L Vincent's 43 helped ICL World XI to beat ICL India XI by eight wickets in the ICL 20s World Series played at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium at Hyderabad on Wednesday.
ICL World XI made 145 runs for the loss of two wickets in 18.3 overs with the help of Martyn who was unbeaten on 67 from 53 deliveries includes 10 hits to fence while Vincent who made a valuable contribution of 43 runs from 32 balls with the help of 6 fours and one six. M S Atapattu was unbeaten 25 at the close of the play. They lost their first wicket for seven runs while the second fell at 79 runs when Vincent was out. G Vignesh and STR Binny took one wicket each by conceding 28 and 32 runs respectively.
Earlier opting to bat, ICL India XI made 141 runs for 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. T P Singh, who guided the team was unbeaten on 63 from 49 deliveries includes eight fours and one six. S T R Binny who was unbeaten on 37, came from 27 balls, played a good innings, with the help of two fours and one six. R S Gavsakar made a valuable contribution of 30 from 27 balls, includes two hits to fence and one six.. The former Ranji Player A T Rayudu , who played a good innings in earlier matches, was unexpectedly run out for one run, disappointed the cricket lovers.
Captain R Sathish was return to pavilion without scoring any runs, he was brilliant caught by Cairns in the bowling of Van der Wath. ICL India XI lost their four wickets. A A Jhunjhunwala, G Vignesh, A T Rayudu and R Sathish for nine runs at the end of the third over. Then R S Gavaskar who took charge and extended his cooperation to T P singh, both added 61 runs to the fifth wickets, when the score is moving, before was run out. J JVan der Wath who bowled well with a good line length, took two wickets for 12 runs. D R Tuffey claimed one wickets for 27 runs.

ICL announces prize money for 20s world series 2008

The Indian Cricket league on Tuesday announced a whopping Rs 3.24 crore prize money for its upcoming ICL 20s World Series 2008 beginning at Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The winners of this tournament will pocket Rs 1.25 crores, the runner-up will get richer by Rs 75 lakhs and the third placed side will receive Rs 50 lakhs. In the league stage, every win will fetch Rs 10 lakh, resulting in a total prize money of Rs 60 lakh at the league stage itself.
"It is a fulfilling experience to see the ICL make rapid strides in terms of growing bigger and better in only its first year of operations. Multiple venues, additional teams, an improved player base and to top it all, a very impressive prize money to be won, should make the tournament an enthralling experience for both the players and cricket fans," ICL Executive Board member Kiran More said. Captain of the ICL Pakistan side Inzamam-ul-Haq asserted his team was the favourite to lift the title. "Matches will be competitive and we will definitely try to win the series," he said.
