Ahmedabad Rockets put up a combined effort to stun Chandigarh Lions by 39 runs in the ongoing Indian Cricket League (ICL) Twenty20 tournament at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 198 posted by the Ahmedabad`s team, Chandigarh Lions were restricted on 158 for 9.
Electing to bat first, Rockets posted a competitive 197 in 19.5 overs with an impressive average of 9.93 runs per over.
M W Goodwin, who later adjudged Man of the Match, scored 61 runs off just 31 deliveries to lead the batting department, while RJ Campbell (28), DR Martyn (20), KM Sanjeev (32) and RS Sodhi (23) only added to the worries of the Chandigarh Lions` bowlers.
For Lions, L Ablish bagged four wickets in 2.5 overs, but failed to arrest the run-rate. Among other, Amit Uniyal bagged two wickets, while Karanveer Singh and Rajesh Sharma took one each.
On Lions part, Uniyal (45) and Karanveer, who made a gutsy 42 off just 24 balls, put up commendable efforts. But their fighting innings went in vain as rest of the batsmen failed to deliver on time.
Lions` innings were wrapped up by the Ahmedabad Rockets` bowlers on 158 for 9.
Rockets` JN Gillespie and S Sriram took two wickets each.
